The Spaceship That Turned Night into Day
Hugo loved playing with his toy spaceship. He zoomed it around the living room, making spaceship noises and pretending to fly to the moon. But his dad kept saying, "Time for bed, Hugo!"
"But I'm not tired!" Hugo protested, his spaceship buzzing around his head. "I'm going to Mars!"
His dad chuckled. "Mars is a long way, Hugo. You need your rest to fly there."
Hugo pouted. He didn't want to go to bed. He wanted to keep playing. He ran around the house, his spaceship trailing behind him. He even tried hiding under the couch, but his dad found him.
"Come on, Hugo," his dad said, gently pulling him up. "Let's go to bed."
Hugo sighed. He knew he couldn't escape forever. But he had one last trick up his sleeve. He grabbed his spaceship and held it up high.
"Look, Dad!" he exclaimed. "My spaceship has a special power! It can turn night into day!"
His dad smiled. "Really? That's amazing! Can you show me?"
Hugo nodded, his eyes wide with excitement. He pointed his spaceship at the ceiling. "Close your eyes, Dad!"
His dad closed his eyes, and Hugo pretended to press a button on his spaceship. He made a loud "whoosh" sound and opened his eyes.
"Wow!" his dad exclaimed. "It's daytime! The sun is shining!"
Hugo giggled. He had tricked his dad! He could keep playing all night!
But then, his dad pointed to the window. "Look, Hugo! The sun is setting. It's getting dark."
Hugo looked out the window. The sun was indeed setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple. He felt a little sad. He had been so busy pretending that he hadn't noticed the time.
"Oh," he said, his voice small. "I guess it's really bedtime."
His dad smiled. "That's right, Hugo. But before we go to bed, let's read a story about space."
Hugo's eyes lit up. He loved space stories! He snuggled up next to his dad, and they read about astronauts, rockets, and planets.
As his dad read, Hugo's eyelids started to feel heavy. He yawned, and his spaceship slipped from his hand.
"Goodnight, Hugo," his dad whispered, tucking him into bed.
"Goodnight, Dad," Hugo mumbled, his eyes closing.
He dreamed of flying his spaceship to Mars, and he knew that when he woke up, he would be ready for another day of adventures.
