The Honey Cake Moon
Barnaby the bear was wide awake! His tummy rumbled like a sleepy little engine, "Grumble, grumble... honey cake, honey cake!"
Barnaby peeked out his cozy cave. The moon was a big, yellow cheese in the sky, and the stars were tiny, twinkling lights. "Maybe I can find a honey cake," he thought, his nose twitching.
He tiptoed past the sleeping squirrels, who were curled up in their nests. He walked past the owls, who were already tucked in their tree hollows.
Barnaby reached the meadow, where the flowers were all closed for the night. He saw a little firefly, blinking its light. "Excuse me, little firefly," Barnaby asked, "have you seen a honey cake?"
The firefly blinked its light, "I saw a little girl with a basket full of honey cakes, but she went that way!" It pointed its light towards a path.
Barnaby followed the path, his tummy rumbling louder and louder. He came to a little cottage with a warm, inviting light shining from the window.
He peeked inside. There was the little girl, eating a honey cake! She looked up and saw Barnaby. "Hello, bear!" she said, smiling. "Would you like a honey cake?"
Barnaby's tummy stopped rumbling. He smiled back, "Yes, please!"
The little girl gave him a big, delicious honey cake. Barnaby ate it slowly, savoring every bite. He felt so happy and sleepy.
He thanked the little girl and went back to his cave, his tummy full and his heart happy. He snuggled into his bed and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of honey cakes and fireflies.
