The Knight Who Was Afraid of the Dark

Opening image for the story
Sir Samuel the Brave was the bravest knight in the land! He wasn't afraid of dragons, or giants, or even grumpy trolls. But there was one thing that made Sir Samuel's knees shake... sleeping alone in his big, echoing castle. One night, as Sir Samuel was getting ready for bed, he heard a tiny sniffle coming from under his bed. He peeked underneath and saw a tiny, sleepy dragon with big, green eyes. "Hello," said Sir Samuel, surprised. "Are you lost?" "No," said the dragon, his voice as small as he was. "I'm Sparky, and I'm afraid to sleep alone too." Sir Samuel felt a little less scared. Maybe Sparky could help him be brave! They decided to check for monsters together. They looked under the bed, behind the curtains, and even in the closet, but there were no monsters to be found. Then, Sir Samuel read Sparky a story about a brave knight who fought a fearsome dragon. Sparky snuggled closer as Sir Samuel read, and soon, they were both feeling brave and sleepy. "Do you have a favorite plushie?" asked Sir Samuel. "I have a fluffy cloud," said Sparky, holding up a tiny, white cloud. Sir Samuel pulled out his favorite stuffed bear, a big, cuddly brown bear named Barnaby. They snuggled together, Sparky and Sir Samuel, and soon, the castle was filled with the quiet sounds of peaceful snores. Sir Samuel realized that bravery wasn't about never being afraid. It was about facing your fears and finding comfort in the quiet of the night, especially when you had a friend to snuggle with. And so, Sir Samuel and Sparky, the bravest knight and the sleepiest dragon, drifted off to sleep, together.
