The Owl and the Lost Kitten

Opening image for the story
Mittens the kitten was lost! He had been chasing butterflies in the garden when he wandered too far. The sun was setting, and the shadows grew long and scary. Mittens felt very small and alone. He meowed sadly, but no one answered. Suddenly, a soft "Hoo-hoo" echoed through the trees. Mittens looked up and saw Hoot the owl perched on a branch. Hoot had big, wise eyes and soft, brown feathers. "Are you lost, little one?" Hoot asked in a gentle voice. Mittens nodded, his tiny tail drooping. "Don't worry," Hoot said. "I know these woods well. Follow me." Hoot spread his wings and flew silently through the darkness. Mittens, feeling braver now, followed close behind. Hoot flew over fields and through forests, always keeping a watchful eye on Mittens. As they flew, Hoot told Mittens stories about the moon and the stars. He explained how the moon gave light to the night and how the stars were like tiny diamonds scattered across the sky. Mittens listened with wide eyes, forgetting his fear. Finally, they reached a familiar sight - Mittens' house! He saw his human, Sarah, sitting on the porch, looking worried. "Mittens!" Sarah cried, scooping him up in her arms. "Where have you been? I was so worried!" Mittens purred happily, nuzzling against Sarah's cheek. He had found his way home thanks to Hoot the owl, who had shown him that even in the darkness, there was beauty and kindness.
