The Missing Sparkle

Opening image for the story
Lily the ladybug was a happy ladybug. She had a shiny red shell with the most beautiful black spots. But her favorite spot was her lucky spot, a tiny, sparkly gold dot on her back. It made her feel special and brave. One sunny morning, Lily woke up and felt a tickle on her back. She wiggled and stretched, but the tickle wouldn't go away. She looked in a dewdrop and gasped! Her lucky spot was gone! "Oh no!" cried Lily. "Where did it go?" She flew around the garden, searching high and low. She asked the buzzing bees, the chirping crickets, and the busy ants. But no one had seen her lucky spot. "Don't worry, Lily," said a wise old owl perched on a branch. "The wisest creature in the garden knows everything. Go to the top of the tallest sunflower and ask the wise old snail." Lily flew to the top of the sunflower, her little legs tired. There, she found the wise old snail, slowly making his way up the stem. "Excuse me, Mr. Snail," said Lily. "Have you seen my lucky spot?" The snail looked at Lily with his wise eyes. "I haven't seen your spot, little ladybug," he said slowly. "But I know where to find it." He pointed his long, thin antenna towards the ground. "Look for the smallest, shiniest thing you can find. That's where your lucky spot will be." Lily flew down to the ground and looked around. She saw a tiny, sparkling gold speck nestled in a blade of grass. It was her lucky spot! Lily was so happy. She flew back to the sunflower and thanked the wise old snail. She learned that even though she lost her lucky spot, it was always with her, just waiting to be found.
